The 2020 BWR Voter Guide is a non-partisan resource for voters to prepare to participate in national, state and local elections in their communities. The voter guide offers a unique opportunity for voters to learn about the Presidential candidates and their vision for the country. The guide includes key 2020 election dates for caucuses, primaries, general election, state voter registration deadlines, Republican and Democratic conventions, official presidential debates and much more!
In January 2020, the BWR and our voter guide partners, A. Philip Randolph Institute, Black Voters Matter and National Council of Negro Women, sent letters inviting sixteen (16) declared democratic and republican presidential candidates that were ranking in the national polls, to submit their written responses to our 2020 Presidential Election Questionnaire. five (5) of those candidates dropped out of the race since the initial request went out three months ago. The BWR Voter Guide includes candidate profiles for ten (10) presidential candidates remaining in the race as of February 16, 2020.
The BWR Voter Guide will be updated throughout the 2020 Election Cycle with additional questionnaire responses we may receive from presidential candidates and other resources to assist voters.
The extensive questionnaire focused on key issues identified by BWR’s research, national and state-based network members and partners that are important to Black women including the ESSENCE/BWR Power of the Sister Vote Poll that was released in September 2019.
The BWR 202 Presidential Candidates Questionnaire consists of 98 questions organized into eight (8) broad domestic policy issue areas and additional campaign information, including:

- Quality Education, Equity and Access
- Quality Health Care, Health & Reproductive Justice
- Women’s Rights, LGBTQ+ Rights, Human Rights & Gender Justice
- Criminal Justice Reform & Systemic Racism
- Climate Change and Environmental Justice
- Inclusive Democracy, Civil Rights and Systemic Racisms
- Protecting Our Democracy and Privacy
- Additional Campaign Information
What you will find in the voter guide are the candidates’ unedited responses to the questionnaire (along with the letter received from one candidate, and general statements from the respective teams of two other candidates), which are organized in the five policy major categories listed above. These responses along with the candidate profiles provide substantial information about the field; but more importantly, the reader can develop a framework for sifting through all of the positions and policy options that emerge during the election cycle.

Established in 1983, Black Women’s Roundtable (BWR) is the women and girls empowerment arm of the National Coalition on Black Civic Participation (NCBCP), a non-partisan civic-engagement organization. BWR promotes health and wellness, economic security and prosperity, quality public education and global empowerment. We established the BWR Intergenerational Policy Network in 2008, which is comprised of a diverse group of Black women civic leaders representing national, regional, state-based and international organizations and institutions.
